Some things that I love #9

Some things that I love #9

So it’s been a while as I have been busy giving birth and settling in with beautiful baby Eden, but here is what I’ve been enjoying this week.

Some thing that I read

Finding the time to read just never seems to happen. I see other people’s efforts on this section and wonder why I never have time to read. Besides having 2 babies under 18 months, I have come to the conclusion that at the moment, I am lucky to have my husband with me most of the time. In his final year at Uni and with the long summer break he had. He has been looking after me throughout Eden’s pregnancy and I am fortunate enough to have his company 90% of my time. This is my thought on why I don’t read.

Saying that though, I have spent most of this week reading ‘Stories for 1 year olds’

20131202-075118.jpg

Judah brings me this book at least 30 times a day and asks me to read him a story. It has 6 little stories in it that are all rhyming. He likes the rhythm and rhyme. Also the noises of the animals or trains, buses etc as we read it to him. I have enjoyed doing this whilst Eden is feeding on me or asleep in her Moses basket as it is our quality time and one thing he’ll sit still for.

Some thing that I watched

Ok, so I went to a Mamma Mia fundraiser night. We had Italian food, acoustic entertainment and all sat to watch the Singalong version of the movie at the end of the evening. I watched this movie once when it came out to see what all the fuss was about but was very disturbed seeing Meryl Streep writhing around singing and dancing. Since I have managed to avoid it….. until now! The fundraiser was to raise money for a bursary place for a lady to be able to go on a Spiritual Health Weekend at the lovely 4* Marriott resorts. The price is £180 per lady and I have been for the last 5 years. It is something that has helped direct my life whilst going through an abusive marriage, divorce, remarriage, pregnancies. It is a lovely weekend and I would highly recommend it. The only reason I won’t be attending this year is that Eden will be too small to leave without my b/milk for a weekend. I don’t want to express that much for her at so young. It takes place in the New Year, have a nosey if you’re interested and love anywhere near Preston or Bristol. Nancy Goudie’s Spiritual Health Weekend

Some thing I wore

This is difficult as after just giving birth I have been mainly wearing my pyjamas. A difficult pregnancy made my main priority in life to be comfortable. This seems to have continued with my wardrobe choices since little Eden has been born. I will wear a mismatch of pyjama bottoms, a strappy nightie over the top so I can feed her easily and then a jumper over that to keep me warm. I have as usual been living in leggings and dresses when I go out. Looking forward to treating myself to new clothes in the New Year. I’ll blog my findings when I go on mine and James’ big shopping spree.

Some thing I listened to

I made myself a ‘Labour’ playlist on Spotify for when I was giving birth. It was so relaxing I have found myself listening to it lots when I’m in the car driving my hubby and babies around. It has some chilled songs that remind me of my growing family ie. Creed ‘With arms wide open’ and then a lot of worship music. As a Christian it was important to me to have worship music on as Eden came into the world. It also made me a lot more relaxed and peaceful. One of my favourites and helps Eden go to sleep is ‘Look to the cross’. The version I have is a female vocalist though. Can’t find it on YouTube but if you like the song have a listen to it on Spotify.

Look to the Cross

Some thing I cannot live without

Haha, every new mum will say the same sleep. I am massively enjoying being able to sleep again as I’m not constantly uncomfortable and thank God He has blessed me with 2 fantastic sleepers. My husband and I are enjoying catching up on the hours missed out over the last few months.

This weeks round up of things I love with @butwhymummywhy:

Some thing I read

It’s Dyspraxia Awareness Week so I decided to write a blog dedicated to my husband ‘My Life With a Dyspraxic’ and to do this I read on the http://www.dyspraxiafoundation.org.uk website a list of the symptoms.  Sounds awful but some of it had me in hysterics, these are symptoms my husband and I live with everyday, but seeing it in black and white reminded me of the things I constantly get at him for that are actually part of his condition. ie. being ‘Slow to finish a task. May daydream and wander about aimlessly.’  I won’t go into it all again this post but if you’d like to read about it click here.

Some thing I watched

Cracking out my old DVD box sets again, I have been watching ‘The OC‘ a lot.  Now it started airing 10 years ago now, so I’m not going to apologise for any *spoilers, but to be honest it’s not that big a deal to an OC lover to see what I write even if you do decide now you want to watch it.  I watched a scene this week in Season 3 where a character (not one of the core) dies, and they give him a funeral on the beach.  He was a surfer, so part of the service included them sending a surf board out to sea that they’d all signed.  They don’t make a big deal about this in the editing, it’s just there, but for some reason it makes me cry everytime.  I think there is something so tragic about young lives snuffed out too soon.  So much potential and dreams just gone in an instant.  Not to be all depressing, but it challenged me again that we should try to live to the full, and each day as if it were our last as best as possible.  This isn’t easy when you’re a Mum and your days become routine (breakfasts, getting ready, school runs, cleaning whilst kids are at school, or entertaining toddlers/pre-schoolers, then school run again, making dinner, doing homework, baths and bed) but it can remind us to really treasure the time that we have with our children and make the most of the conversations we have with those that come across our path each day.

Some thing I wore

My free gift from my Elle UK subscription finally arrived, some lovely TOPSHOP make up from the Core Collection.  I have fallen in love with the peach/coral lipstick that they sent for me.  If you want to see more about some thing I wore this week, please check out my ‘What I Wore Wednesday‘ post.

Some thing I listened to

I am singing at a wedding today Friday 18th November at 3pm.  I am singing the groom (it’s a gay wedding) down the aisle and also singing a couple of songs as they sign the register.  I was also supposed to be performing an hour set at the evening do, I have managed to pass this off to my sister as I am now 36 weeks pregnant and as much as I may be able to still sing, I can’t really move.  My sitting performing upbeat tracks at the evening do, is just NOT entertainment.

Obviously, as it’s today, I have been practicing this week, so most of my listening has consisted of the songs that I am singing.  He has picked very flamboyant tunes, so they’re not too easy to sing, but my favourite one I’m singing today is Christina Aguilera’s ‘Bound to You’ from Burlesque.  Think of me at around 3:30pm today belting this out as best I can with 30 days to go til baby is due.

Some thing I cannot live without

So it might sound obvious but MUSIC.  Everytime I’m in my car, everytime I’m sat at home knitting Eden’s blanket, when the girls and I are having a girlie night with face masks and nail painting, we are ALWAYS listening to music.  When the children are involved we don’t have a wide variety of choice as they always tend to want the same things over and over, but I am a Spotify premium account holder and there are always new albums that I can listen to included in my £9.99 a month.  Last week I was raving about ‘Birdy’s’ new album as I had that and this week I found a guy ‘Ian Yates‘ I used to sing with is doing quite well for himself in the Christian circuits and has a couple of albums on Spotify, so we’ve been listening to some of his new stuff.  Check him out by clicking on his name above or looking him up on Spotify.

This weeks round up of things I love with @butwhymummywhy:

Some thing I read

My Elle subscription arrived, so I have the November issue. Inside was an article about ’40 days of dating’. A blog started by two graphic designers who live in NYC. They found themselves single at the same time after years of being friends and decided to try and work out their relationship issues by dating each other, every day for 40 days, and seeing a relationship counsellor once a week. It’s a gorgeous blog with them both being graphic designers and a very interesting read. I won’t spoil it incase you want to read fortydaysofdating

Some thing I watched

So, continuing on with being pretty much bed bound this pregnancy and our dvd collection being completely exhausted (we don’t have a tv license, don’t watch it apart from dvd’s we own). My friend Pete lent us some dvd’s. I watched the first 4 seasons of ‘the Big Bang Theory’ in a couple of weeks. Took me a season to get into. Sheldon’s character irritated me. The hubby was laughing his head off constantly whilst I was busy knitting Eden’s blanket. By Season 2 though I was hooked. Now find Sheldon adorable and so interesting to watch. I have a friend who reminds me of his social ineptness without being a brainiac and I genuinely feel I understand him better now I’ve watched TBBT. Now need to get up to date with the other seasons.

Some thing I wore

My Mum bought me a new black maxi dress that is so comfy. I wore it for 3 days last week (as I’m mainly in pj’s in bed this isn’t as bad as it sounds *honest). It accentuates my 35 week pregnant bump but I am so comfortable in it. Cannot wait for it to come back out of the wash *coughs to remind hubby to do some washing.

Some thing I listened to

Birdy’s new album ‘fire within’ is on Spotify and it is beautiful. Another knitting favourite of mine. I will put it on and relax knitting in bed. She has such a lovely voice and as a fellow pianist I just enjoy the mellowness and sheer beauty of the album. Haven’t got a favourite track yet *stay tuned.

Some thing I cannot live without

Terrible I know but I guess because I’m pregnant. Mash potato. I know. Just keep craving it and want roast dinner type meals. Am also happy to just have mash with gravy too. I believe it isn’t too bad a craving so am just going with it.

Some things that I love #6

Some things that I love #6

This last week has been crazy with planning for Shayla’s 4th birthday party. Getting a new car, the in-laws staying so I seemed to get a bit behind with the blogging but will give butwhymummywhy ‘s ‘Some things that I love’ linky a go.

Some thing I read

My hubby bought me loads of books as I’ve been so bed bound with this pregnancy, but I am pleased to say I have been too busy for one to have been reading them. All my downtime at the moment has been spent knitting a blanket for Eden. I’m starting to crave reading magazines again though… I’m usually a fan of ‘Elle’, ‘Glamour’ and ‘Zest’ but when you’re piling on weight through pregnancy and lack of mobility it’s not so fun to read about clothes you can’t wear or running tips and diets you can’t try. I have just subscribed back to Elle again though and am eagerly awaiting my first issue arrival next week.

Some thing I watched

Ok, so I’ve seen it before but the hubby and my friend Pete leant us a few dvd’s, again due to lack of mobility we have completed exhausted our collection. Last week hubby needed to nip to town (pre car arrival) on the bus which allowed me time to watch ‘Juno’. I love Ellen Paige and I think this is so wonderfully written, the way they converse alone makes me laugh, but the whole storyline of a young girl pregnant and ‘ill-equipped’ to deal with a baby (her words) giving it up for adoption so another family can be happy, just really moves me. The scene where she tries to abort and she sees a Chinese school friend ‘all babies want to get borned’ and she just can’t go through with it once she knows her baby will have fingernails at this stage. It’s just so sweet.

I know it’s old skool but if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it.

Some thing I wore

Somehow I have managed not to buy ANY maternity wear yet. I do not know how, I had borrowed some with Judah and then returned them, and this time I am twice the size, but still manage to get in my stretchy black leggings and just wearing my baggy tops or comfy maxi-dresses. I guess the favourite has been my black mini bailey button Uggs that have lived on my feet since the weather shifted. They are so comfortable, although I have to get one of the children or James to hold the back whilst I push my feet in as they’re not as easy to get on in this late stage of pregnancy as I thought. (Or as I told the hubby they would be as a reason I needed to buy them earlier on in the year… Oops!)

Some thing I listened to

Now we have a car (woop woop) it has resulted in James and I have many debates over what to listen to in the car. I believe I should be able to choose as I’m driving and he has the right to veto whether I like it or not. Too much hassle to argue I have discovered. So we’ve been trying to listen to albums unfamiliar to both of us as a kind of compromise.

Recently, the OneRepublic album ‘Native’ has been getting a lot of airplay. It makes Judah dance happily in the back of the car (in his little car seat of course) and I love Ryan Tedder’s voice. The lyrics are not always the best but are thought provoking, the hubster and I are always discussing lazy lyrics or lyrics that are random and make no sense. As we are both keen song writers and him an enthusiastic lyricist we spend a lot of time discussing lyrics (whether I want to or not). Random one from OneRepublic ‘everything that drowns me makes me wanna fly’. Not as obscure as some, I get the metaphor, just think it’s very randomly placed in the song.

Some thing I cannot live without

Well, it’s only been a few days but or new little car ‘Goldie’ has fast made the cut. It is so good to be able to get about without needing my crutches or James to support me all the time. It’s also nice to be able to feel useful to my family again. Went to visit my Mum in Lytham yesterday and took Judah to the lake and on the park. Was so lovely to be able to watch him playing. Something I have not been able to do for a while due to my inability to get anywhere.

Some things that I love #5

Some things that I love #5

Ok, so it’s been a very long time but I have decided to link up with ‘butwhymummywhy’ for Some things that I love again this week. some things that I love

Some thing I read

I struggle with this one every time as I am not a big reader. I was however horrified by the news I read about the 8 year old Yemeni child bride that died after consummating marriage on her wedding night. Isis is going to be 8 in March and I literally just couldn’t get my head around it.

Hmm…. doesn’t really fit the remit though does it as this is definitely not ‘some thing that I love’. I read my driving test pass certificate. That was exciting for me. Passing at the age of 30 and 30 weeks pregnant was a bug deal for me. It is done now though, w00t!

Some thing I watched

I may have said this before but the hubby and I don’t have a TV license, and we don’t have the Internet, except on our phones, so we are never up to date with what everyone else is watching. We buy box sets. This past week after severely exhausting our DVD collection we’ve reverted back to watching SATC. He says he’s not into it, but every now and again there’s a chuckle. Last night we were watching Season 6 when Charlotte gets married to Harry.

Some thing I wore

Haha, this pregnancy I haven’t bought one item of maternity wear (yet) and when I hit the gym after Judah was born I gave away everything that was maternity wear for me last time (back to my cousin who had leant them to me). Don’t know how I’ve managed really, cos I am nearly twice the size of the last pregnancy but I just can’t bear to part with money for something temporary. My black leggings may not be able to cope the last 2 months though so we will see.

Now the weather has changed, the girls, Judah and I have all been living in our Uggs. I’ve always enjoyed the comfort, but now we all own some except for Daddy (as the girls keep pointing out), the girls love that we all match. I have to alternate which pair I wear so as to match them both on different days. Shayla’s are short black classics and Isis’ are chestnut tall classics, Judah had chestnut baby boo ones, so cute under his snowsuit.

Some thing I listened to

I am the middle of doing some recording with our church band and have therefore had to spend a lot of time listening to pieces, devising and practicing piano parts. Piano was recorded at the studios at ‘The Grand’ Clitheroe a couple of weeks ago, but this week we are laying down vocals. I’m only singing 2 of the songs but I am practicing constantly so these are what I’m listening to. Stay tuned, once it’s all been mixed and mastered may post a link on here. Will probably be around Christmas time though so not for a while yet.

Some thing I cannot live without

I feel I have said my hubby on this many times before, but it is true. The extent of my uselessness has been far reaching this pregnancy and I do not know what I would’ve done had it not fallen mainly in the Summer between year 2 and 3 of his degree course. He goes back October 7th, but as I blogged earlier we will then have a car which will make a massive difference to my life car and I won’t be as reliant on him.

Once again thank you to ‘butwhymummywhy’ for this fun link up.

Some Things That I Love #4

Something I read

Again, this one doesn’t work well for me, as I just don’t find the time to read.  I’ve been flicking through pinterest for ideas for Ice’s 7th birthday bash.  Does that count?  Lots of things ordered on Amazon this week to be prepared for the party of the year (well for Ice’s class mates anyway).  Fancy party bags, and finger foods at the ready, also, spent a lot of time in the Annabel Karmel book again, looking at how to make funky party food.  Stay tuned, will post plenty of pics once the party has been and gone.

Something I watched

I have felt severely depressed this week and seem to be just trawling my way through the Smallville boxsets in my possession.  Currently on Season 10 (shocking, I know).

smallville, some things that I love

Something I wore

My Pandora bracelet has a new charm thanks to Mother’s Day so I have been wearing it relentlessly.  Unlike me, as I usually have to take my jewellery off at night, this has stayed on my wrist since I was presented with the lovely engraved heart.

pandora, some things that i love

Something I listened to

Depressingly, not anything I can think of, other than myself practicing at the piano.  Not good, this may explain my recent mood.  I have listened to the radio whilst being in the minibus with the students I was working with on social action all week.  I have spent a lot of time in the minibus which is rare for me, as we don’t have a car.  Some of the local youths graced me with 1Direction at the top of their voice whilst it was on the radio.  (oops, must make an effort this week to get music back in my life).

Something I cannot live without

As a non drinker, this week, I’m ashamed to say, I have not been able to live without some coca cola.  I have had major sugar cravings, and giving into them has not helped my mood, and I dare say I’m a bit co-dependent on the caffeine now.  Must, make an effort to wean myself off them this week.

Some Things that I Love #3

Something I read

Still not a big reader, I’m afraid the extent of my reading this week is the Annabel Karmel baby & toddler cookbook.  I have been figuring out which foods JAM hasn’t tried yet (as he’s weaning I need to make sure I broaden his palette).  I discovered to my horror at a local softplay centre he doesn’t like fish.  He has never cried when being fed before, but he really screamed and made me feel awful.  There was no spitting it out, just full blown disappointment, as he has always thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING else that I’ve given him.  Will need to reintroduce with some sweet potato very soon, but left it for now, as I didn’t want to traumatise him or put him off forever.

JAMs displeasure, weaning

JAM’s displeasure at my offer of fish.  Here he is after demolishing a Heinz banana biscotti to make up for it

Something I watched

‘in the land of Mr Men far away, there’s lots of fun in a Mr Silly way…’ (ahem), yes, I haven’t really had time to watch anything this week.  I have however been subjected to learning letters with JAM’s Mr Men DVD.  I’ve watched some of my Smallville boxsets when I’ve not been able to sleep so that I can try and drift off.  So, yes, I guess Smallville Season 8 Boxset has made an appearance this week.  If you’ve not seen Smallville, it is hilarious, (it’s not supposed to be) I’m quite into the Superman/Batman mythology’s and love anything with a hero, but Smallville is so over the top serious, I often watch it wondering how the actor managed to deliver such a ridiculous line ie. ‘Well, I intend to find him and bring him to the Fortress before that happens. I got a faint signal from the console, and I found the crystal that Brainiac used to release Zod.’ (ah, only Tom Welling could deliver this with any authenticity… who am I kidding?).  I don’t know how it works but it does, the 10 season series was a huge hit in the U.S and I own all of them on boxset (ahem…sad).

smallville

Something I wore

My hunter wellies.  Little Miss Rae Rae and I were off taking part in some social action gardening for a disabled man on a local estate.  I was very impressed with her, she is 3 years old and man can she graft!  I was so impressed I offered her a present of her choosing, ‘ a teddy’, ‘what kind of teddy?’, ‘a pony teddy’.  Fair enough, that is my task this week to find and purchase a pony teddy.  I have also relinquished my Uggs to the season and have been wearing my grey Bench boots instead this past week.

Something I listened to

Oh yes, after much anticipation I picked up the new Hillsong UNITED album ‘Zion’.  You will find it high on the itunes charts (#2 in the U.S).  It is a Christian album, and I have been a huge fan of them for well over a decade.  I was eagerly waiting for the release date and purchased it immediately.  Different than usual, they have spent more time on the musicality and synthed up the voices etc.  I find it has shades of the Killers, Bloc Party.  My favourite track is #4 ‘Oceans (Where feet may fail)’.  Check it out.

Something I cannot live without

This week has to be my Micralite Superlite Buggy.  It is so handy and nifty, I wasn’t sure when I purchased it how long my satisfaction would last.  I am an impulsive buyer and had not seen one in the flesh or tested it out.  I just read that it was the best in a magazine someone gave me.  It was the most expensive in the review and therefore my compulsiveness takes over.  I wanted to have it (not because it was the most expensive, because that reiterated to me that it must be the best one… terrible I know).  At £199 for a lightweight buggy I have not been disappointed.  It isn’t handy for putting bags of shopping on, infact I’m sure repeatedly doing so would break it as the frame only weighs 6kg’s (of course you can put shopping you can fit underneath it).  I absolutely adore it though, despite this one flaw which, in effect, just makes me spend less (and makes what Daddy didn’t tell me and our bank balance happier).  It is really handy on the bus, to quote Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman ‘it corners like it’s on rails’, and the beasty back wheels make it really easy to get in and out of our steep steps to the front door, I don’t have to lift it anymore! wuhoo!
